ABOUT
Human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) promoter in pDRIVE expression plasmid
The human epididymis protein 4 (HE4), a member of the whey-acidic protein family, is frequently overexpressed in ovarian cancer cells. The upregulation of whey-acidic proteins in cancer appears to be due to a transcriptional event. A 652 bp fragment of the HE4 promoter, from -530 to +122 (relative to the ATG start site of HE4), is capable of restricting the expression of a transgene to ovarian tumor cells. The HE4-652 promoter contains a cAMP inducible element and seven Ap1 sites. Several hormonal responsive elements and inflammatory responsive elements are found within the promoter that may contribute to the high expression of HE4 in ovarian cancer.
