At the heart of InvivoGen's culture is a commitment to providing life scientists with high-quality and reliable research tools.

InvivoGen at a Glance

InvivoGen is a biotechnology company specializing in research tools for innate and adaptive immunity, metabolic disease, cell biology, and molecular biology. Founded in 1977 in Toulouse, France, InvivoGen develops and manufactures reagents, reporter cell lines, PRR ligands, vaccine adjuvants, cytokines, antibodies, and other tools for life science research worldwide. The company operates from Europe, North America, and Asia, serves researchers in 80 countries, and its products have been cited in more than 75,000 scientific publications.

About 60% of InvivoGen’s employees are scientists, ranging from laboratory technicians to PhD researchers, who make up more than a quarter of the scientific team. Our History

From a University Research Lab to a Global Biotechnology Company

InvivoGen's origins go back to Cayla, a company founded in 1977 in Toulouse by Dr. Gérard Tiraby, a professor of microbiology at Université Toulouse III and one of Europe's early pioneers in applied biotechnology. In the 1970s, Dr. Tiraby developed the antibiotic Zeocin®, and in the early 1980s the company introduced Plasmocin®, an anti-mycoplasma agent still widely used to protect cell cultures. Cayla built its reputation on microbial fermentation and genetic engineering, developing research tools for academic and industrial laboratories.

In 1997, the company expanded internationally with the creation of InvivoGen in San Diego, California, which became its U.S. headquarters. Drawing on its expertise in microbiology, InvivoGen became the first company to commercialize Toll-like receptor (TLR) ligands in 2000 and has since built one of the most comprehensive ranges of products for innate immunity research. In 2014, InvivoGen opened its Asian hub in Hong Kong and adopted the InvivoGen name worldwide. Today, it serves researchers in 80 countries through its three regional offices and a network of international distributors.
