Mycoplasma Detection & Elimination

Mycoplasma contamination remains a significant problem to the culture of mammalian cells.
Mycoplasmas can cause disastrous effects on eukaryotic cells as they can alter every cellular parameter leading to unreliable experimental results and potentially unsafe biological products.

Mycoplasmas are the smallest and simplest self-replicating organisms. They lack a rigid cell wall and grow mostly associated with the mammalian cell membranes. In most cases, there are no signs of mycoplasma contamination in cell culture. Mycoplasmas cannot be detected by visual inspection and do not cause consistent perceptible changes.  Thus, mycoplasmas can remain undetected in the cell cultures for long periods. The only way to confirm mycoplasma contamination is by routine testing. InvivoGen has developed PlasmoTest, a breakthrough in mycoplasma detection for cell cultures.

Once the mycoplasma contamination has been confirmed, it is usually recommended that the infected cell culture be immediately autoclaved to prevent the infection from spreading. However, some cell lines are irreplaceable and require an effective eradication treatment. InvivoGen offers a choice of antimicrobial solutions designed to eliminate and prevent mycoplasma contaminations. Some are also active against bacteria and/or fungi.

Detection

PlasmoTest™ - The Mycoplasma Detection Kit

PlasmoTest icon PlasmoTest™ is the first mycoplasma detection kit that uses engineered cells and therefore can be easily established as a routine procedure in the lab. PlasmoTest™ is sensitive, reliable, appropriately simple and economical for routine use.

Elimination

Plasmocin™ - Elimination and Prevention of Mycoplasma

Plasmocin iconPlasmocin™ is one of InvivoGen‘s best sellers. It eliminates mycoplasma in as little as 2 weeks. Plasmocin™ can also be used as routine addition to the cell culture medium to prevent mycoplasma contamination.

Plasmocure™ - Elimination of Mycoplasma

Plasmocure iconIn very rare cases, mycoplasmas resistant to Plasmocin™ have been reported. To eradicate these mycoplasmas, InvivoGen has developed a new antimycoplasma agent called Plasmocure™.

Primocin™ - Prevention Against Mycoplasma, Bacteria and Fungi for Primary Cells

Primocin iconPrimocin™ is the first formulation to offer complete protection against microbial contaminants.
Primocin™ is specifically designed to keep primary cell cultures contaminant-free.

Normocin™ - Prevention Against Mycoplasma, Bacteria and Fungi

Normocin iconNormocin™ combines several antibiotic compounds to offer a wide-spread protection against microbial contaminants. It is effective against mycoplasma, bacteria and fungi.

Fungin™ - Prevention and Elimination of Fungi

Fungin iconFungin™ is an innovative antifungal agent that eradicates yeast, molds and fungi and is more stable and less toxic than Amphotericin B.
